HOW DO I KNOW IF I WOULD QUALIFY?
You could qualify for a blue badge if you struggle to walk – this could be due to a physical illness such as arthritis, or a hidden disability such as Alzheimers.  You could also be entitled to a blue badge if you find you become very breathless when you walk.
Having a blue badge will enable you to park in disabled bays, and in some circumstances on single or double yellow lines.  You are also able to park in certain car parks free of charge (check before parking).
You will be able to park (usually free) on streets where there are parking meters, pay and display machines, or where there are signs with a blue wheelchair symbol.
You can apply for a blue badge even if you never drive a car, but are always a passenger.
HOW WOULD I APPLY FOR A BLUE BADGE?
We can assist you to complete an application for a new blue badge, or to have your existing blue badge renewed. Just give us a ring and we will discuss this with you, and make an appointment to help you complete the form.

There are certain conditions which entitle you to a blue badge automatically, these are:
  • Being registered severally sight impaired
  • Receiving Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance
  • Receiving Personal Independence Payment (PIP) award (8 points) in “Moving Around” section indicating you can’t walk further than 50metres
  • Receiving PIP award (10 Points) “Planning Your Journey” 10 points regarding overwhelming psychological distress
  • War Pensioner’s Mobility Supplement
  • Benefit under the Armed Forces and Reserve Forces (Compensation) Scheme (tariff 1-8) having been assessed as having a permanent and substantial walking disability?
If none of these apply to you, we will be able to assist you to complete the 22 questions that are part of the application.  To do this we will discuss your condition with you, and how far you are able to walk on both a good day, and a bad day.  We will then be able to advise you on whether we feel you may be successful in obtaining a blue badge.
Please give our Information and Advice team a ring and have a chat with us if you feel you may be able to apply for a blue badge, we will be more than happy to discuss this with you
